Of course being a der brain I always thought full size USB would just be great for transferring and storing extra files. But plug and play game controllers or keyboards that work straight out of the box! Amazing.

That's a good question. I've just searched Amazon but couldn't see one.
I'm betting there will be a separate charger available to charge the spare battery, if not by Toshiba then by some 3rd party.
If the worst comes to the worst, charge the battery with the Thrive and then keep it as the spare - of course

I voted for removable battery, but would have loved to split the vote between that and full sized USB.

Reading around different places about Android, ICS will be the next version of Android. It is designed to be suitable both for smart phones and tablets alike.

« on: July 04, 2011, 12:33:28 pm »The Toshiba Thrive and Apple iPad2 are two very different animals. The iPad2 is certainly lighter and thinner, but the Thrive has much better connectivity options. Also, it depends on whether you are a fan of the closed Apple iOS ecosystem or you like the more open Android model. Right now there are more apps available for iOS, but that will change as Android continues to catch up. As for the hardware, while I like light and thin, I feel the iPad2 is hobbled by forcing you to just use its proprietary connector for everything. If I want to expand memory on the Toshiba Thrive all I need to do is buy an SD card and pop it in. I can't do that with the iPad2. If I want to watch hidef tv all I need to do is plug a cable into the built in HDMI port on my Thrive...the iPad2 doesn't have one and requires an additional dongle. Same goes for USB Ports. So yes...thin is nice...but at what price?
I agree totally with the above.
In other places, like engadget and cnet I'm getting a bit tired of everyone comparing tablets to the iPad.
Yep the iPad is very stable tablet, but the thing I love about Android OS is it is open source. Give it a while and it will have evolved by far into the most stable and varied OS.
Hard ware wise... Robotgirl says it all. Thrive wins for me... I don't even have one YET! Roll on it's release in the UK.

I'm guessing ICS will be version 4 of Android?
If so, I can't see why not. Most hardware will run around three or four versions of an OS, before the hardware becomes to old and therefore to slow or incompatible with the software.

Hi also know as Gordon, but I use Staberinde on a number of different forums.
I've been following the progress of Toshiba's then unnamed tablet for what seems like years now and I am looking forward to it's imminent release in the UK.
I hope to pick some hints and tips here as well as any help I may need. I've ever had a Tablet before, I always knew I wanted an Android based one and have waited for Toshiba's thrive because of it's replaceable battery and full USB connectivity.
Looking forward to seeing this forum pick up a bit when more and more people pick up their new Thrives.
