New Member Introductions / Hi!
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:07:11 pm »
Hi from Robotgirl...also known as Lisa.  I'm a big android fan having had the original Droid and I've been waiting for the Toshiba tablet to finally get a name (yay Thrive!).  Plan on buying one as soon as I can and slap a pink cover on the back of it.

Toshiba Thrive 10 General Discussion / Re: Thrive Back Covers?
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:05:10 pm »
I wonder if there will be custom designed back covers for the Toshiba Thrive.  You can't really put a skin on them with all that ribbing.  I'm thinking polka-dots! LOL :)

Toshiba Thrive 10 General Discussion / Re: Thrive or ipad?
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:04:08 pm »
The Toshiba Thrive and Apple iPad2 are two very different animals.  The iPad2 is certainly lighter and thinner, but the Thrive has much better connectivity options.  Also, it depends on whether you are a fan of the closed Apple iOS ecosystem or you like the more open Android model.  Right now there are more apps available for iOS, but that will change as Android continues to catch up.  As for the hardware, while I like light and thin, I feel the iPad2 is hobbled by forcing you to just use its proprietary connector for everything.  If I want to expand memory on the Toshiba Thrive all I need to do is buy an SD card and pop it in.  I can't do that with the iPad2.  If I want to watch hidef tv all I need to do is plug a cable into the built in HDMI port on my Thrive...the iPad2 doesn't have one and requires an additional dongle.  Same goes for USB Ports.   So yes...thin is nice...but at what price?

While there is no official announcement of a 3G or 4G Toshiba Thrive, most believe that Toshiba will introduce a model with cellular access shortly after the Wi-Fi model launches.

Toshiba Thrive 10 General Discussion / Re: Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Thrive?
« on: June 08, 2011, 05:57:55 pm »
The Toshiba Thrive and Galaxy Tab 10.1 are both good Honeycomb tablets.  Each has their own strengths.  The Thrive has better connectivity options, a rechargeable battery and interchangeable colored back covers.  The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is thinner and lighter but has less ports and connection options.  The prices are close, although the Thrive undercuts the Galaxy Tab 10.1 by a bit.  For a 16GB model of the Thrive it'll set you back $479 while the comparable Galaxy Tab 10.1 is $499.  But the Thrive includes full size HDMI, USB and SD Card slots while the Galaxy Tab has none of the above.  Personally, while the Toshiba Thrive weighs a bit more and is a little chunker, the added flexibility of not having to carry around a port adapter makes up for it.  I like having everything built in so I don't have to worry about having adapters and connection cables.  Add to that the option to have additional batteries and I'm sold.
